The Palliative Care Research Society was set up to provide a forum for palliative care research and to enable researchers to learn from each other in order to promote high-quality research.
The object of the PCRS
We promote research into all aspects of palliative care and to facilitate its dissemination. This is a clear vision for Palliative Care Research Society activity which is increasingly important within the palliative care research context.
Join the PCRS
We now have 4 levels of membership available
Full Membership: £60.00 per annum
Undergraduate Membership: £15.00 per annum
Postgraduate Membership: £25.00 per annum
Organisation Membership: £550.00 per annum (for up to 10 members)
What we offer
Research workshops
These are run in collaboration with other organisations in different parts of the country. Examples of these workshops include: Writing for publication; Accessing research funding; Ethics in palliative care research; Paediatric palliative care research.
Conferences and workshops within conferences
We are committed to continuing to support high quality palliative care conferences where research can be shared and discussed – whether this be organising a conference in collaboration with others, such as the Palliative Care Congress, or working with individual organisations to support and strengthen their conference, providing workshops on research and supporting the strengthening of the research component of their conferences.
PhD/Master workshops
We run workshops for PhD and Masters students to share their on going research, promote discussions, and review aspects of their studies where appropriate. Thus giving them the opportunity to discuss their work with a different group of individuals. These workshops have proved successful and a plan is in place for on going workshops of this kind.
Scholarships
We offer limited scholarships for members to apply for to attend different conferences/ meetings – these will be advertised on our website and through our newsletters.
Newsletter
Our newsletter brings information about different research studies that are either ongoing or completed, the opportunity to share your research ideas, to identify individuals/organisations for collaboration etc
Represent your region
The PCRS is seeking to develop a number of Regional Representatives in 2022, to connect local members of the PCRS and provide opportunities for connection and peer support, particularly for early career researchers. The Role is outlined below, and if you are interested in representing your region, please contact us to discuss this further:
The Role of a Regional Representative
A Regional Representative is responsible for promoting the PCRS within their area, providing a link for regional members, and where possible, supporting local events to connect regional members. RRs will also represent PCRS members / potential members living in their region, and act as an essential link between PCRS members and the Events Officer / Executive Committee.
There are a range of possible activities that RRs can engage and promote, depending on opportunities, the nature of their region, its geography, the distribution and number of members. These tasks include:
• Promoting the PCRS locally
• Proactively seeking out and helping potential members
For example, acting as a resource to link members, or direct members to appropriate support for research guidance – which will be supported by the PCRS website.
• Be the primary point of contact for all PCRS members in their region
• Maintain contact with local members
• Submit a brief annual report (max 2 pages) for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in January each year
• Potentially help/organise meetings for local members who would like contact with others
For example, setting up a networking meeting at a local HEI, or organising a Tweet up at a national/international conference
• Promote the use of PCRS membership benefits and PCRS events supported by the administrators
• Retweet PCRS tweets tagging local Twitter accounts to help promote the society and national/online events.
