Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK; the number of those living with dementia is expected to reach 1.4 million by 2040, up from 1 million today. Alzheimer’s Society and Marie Curie have identified that the end of life care available to people living with dementia often does not meet their unique needs.
This partnership recognises that dementia care challenges are too significant to tackle alone, requiring coordinated effort from researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and those with lived experience.

The two charities joined forces to equally fund just under £1M research. These projects aim to develop practical tools, training, and guidelines—improving homecare support, empowering carers, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions, and addressing unique care needs of rare dementias.
